As part of the British Beer & Pub Association’s contribution to the Government’s ‘Alcohol Responsibility Deal’ the BBPA has developed a Customer Unit Awareness Campaign for the on-trade in partnership with Drinkaware. A number of member companies also signed up to support the campaign as part of their own individual commitments to the Responsibility Deal.

Although it is positive that levels of harmful drinking have declined, it is important that consumers fully understand the unit content of what they are drinking to allow them to moderate accordingly and drink within the recommended guidelines.

The materials created as part of this campaign highlight the unit content of popular drinks that are likely to be drunk in pubs and bars alongside the guidance on lower risk drinking in a clear and eye catching format.

How to support the campaign

There is a range of ways in which companies and licensees can support the campaign to help consumers understand the unit content of popular drinks better. Anyone can download and use the poster artwork and other materials and hi-res images of these can be downloaded free of charge below can be found below.

A summary image (“lock up”) of the key unit awareness messages can also be found below can be used on existing company materials and point-of-sale.

Some suggestions of ways to support the campaign include:

  • Distribute BBPA Unit Awareness materials to pubs and encourage licensees to display them - High resolution artwork for unit awareness posters, tent cards and beer mats can be downloaded for printing from the BBPA website here or posters are available for free for BBPA members.
  • Ensure unit awareness graphics are prominently displayed on company websites - This can include corporate websites, partner facing websites and individual pub web pages.
  • Incorporation of unit awareness graphics into company branded materials and point of sale e.g. menus, posters, promotional materials.
  • Distribution of information on responsible drinking and unit awareness.
  • Distribution of unit branded glassware or unit marked pre-packaged drinks.
