People 1st have released ‘Licensed Hospitality 2009: A Labour Market Review of the Pub, Bar and Nightclub Industry’.

People 1st, in partnership with the British Institute of Innkeeping(BII), conducted extensive research to obtain a definitive snapshot of the licensed hospitality industry. Further support was provided by the Federation of the Retail Licensed Trade Northern Ireland, the Association of Multiple Licensed Retailers and the British Beer and Pub Association.

The research brings together information to describe what is currently driving industry performance, with particular focus on the implications for its workforce.

It describes:

• The size and structure of the sector
• Key drivers for change within the sector
• The size and characteristics of the workforce
• Recruitment and retention practices
• Training and development practices
• Future opportunities and threats

The research predominantly focuses on the pubs, bars and nightclubs element of the licensed hospitality industry.
