BBPA and Pub & Bar magazine announce partnership for Annual Dinner and Awards

The British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) and Pub & Bar magazine have announced a leading industry partnership to deliver the BBPA Annual Dinner and Awards 2015.

The dinner, which has fast become a must-attend event for the on-trade, takes place at the five-star Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington, on Wednesday 14 October 2015.

The Annual Dinner and Awards will follow the very first Pub Goers Conference, which will be hosted by Pub & Bar in association with the BBPA and Cardinal Research. The Conference, which also takes place at the Royal Garden Hotel, takes place between 10am and 4pm, and will deliver a series of guest speaker presentations, panel discussions and Q&As about the pub-going (and non pub-going) consumer.

After the Pub Goers Conference, the evening will then bring together business leaders in the brewing and pub sector, key industry stakeholders, as well as parliamentarians. Through teaming up for this year’s event, the BBPA and Pub & Bar magazine aim to bring to the industry an evening that rightly celebrates and recognises the outstanding achievements gained by key individuals and organisations within the market.

Commenting on the announcement, Brigid Simmonds, BBPA chief executive, says:

“The BBPA Annual Dinner gives all our members an opportunity to celebrate our achievements and the work of the great British brewing and pub sector to which we all belong. A third historic duty cut and our many great pubs, which form a key part of the UK’s hospitality and tourism offer, are supported by a great deal of collective hard work. Last year, we received some outstanding award entries and with our new partnership with Pub & Bar and the sponsorship of Sky, we expect some great entries and an evening to remember.”

Commenting on the announcement, Tristan O’Hana, editor of Pub & Bar magazine, says:

“The BBPA Annual Dinner is always a fantastic evening that befittingly acknowledges the hardworking and passionate people of this industry. As a magazine that only focuses on documenting the outstanding achievements and business-building mentalities that so many on-trade operators demonstrate every day of the year, it makes perfect sense for Pub & Bar to be partnering with the BBPA to deliver their annual celebration. What’s more, the elite of the on-trade will also have the chance to attend the very first Pub Goers Conference before the evening celebrations. It really is going to be a wonderful day for the industry.”

Alison Dolan, Deputy Managing Director at Sky Business, added:

“We are delighted to sponsor the BBPA Annual Dinner and Awards, and look forward to an evening that recognises the outstanding work in the on-trade. We’ve worked with the BBPA for a number of years and it’s a relationship that reflects the importance of the whole industry to us at Sky. We are looking forward to a great evening and seeing all the fantastic shortlisted awards entries.”

This year’s Awards will consist of four categories:

  • The Off-trade Retailer Award – rewarding a company that has shown exceptional support to the beer industry throughout its estate.

  • The Grain-to-Glass Award – rewarding excellence, innovation and/or return on investment in addressing a significant supply chain challenge.

  • The Corporate Contribution Award – rewarding an individual within a company who has made a particular contribution that has benefited the business.

  • The Chairman’s Award – the chairman of the BBPA acknowledges the outstanding industry achievements of an individual or organisation.

  • More information on tickets for the evening, further details on the Awards categories and how to enter can be found at or

Notes to editors:

The British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) is the leading body representing Britain’s brewers and pub companies. The Association is more than a century old and was originally founded as the Brewers’ Society in 1904. Our members account for some 90 per cent of beer brewed in Britain today, and own around 20,000 of the nation’s pubs.

Pub & Bar magazine is the only fortnightly publication in the UK with a targeted ABC audited circulation that is aimed exclusively at premium pub and bar operators controlling this £22bn sector. The title has proved to be an invaluable resource to operators and owners; encompassing all that is relevant to the modern retail on-trade. Each issue includes everything from extended industry news, regular food and drink features, new openings, legal Q&A, business building initiatives, staff training and the very latest new products coming to the market.

The Pub Goers Conference will share key insight around why and how often consumers are visiting the on-trade; consumer demographics; how the pub sector can increase the number of consumers visiting the on-trade; how 21st century consumers are making their choices; and consumer trends, expectations and spend in the on-trade. It will also highlight a mirroring study on non-pub goers, looking at their social habits and understanding how we can attract these consumers to visit the pub.
