BBPA comments on latest BT pricing package

Commenting on the announcement from BT Sport on its latest pubs, clubs & commercial premises package, BBPA Chief Executive Brigid Simonds said:

“These changes mean that if pubs want to show all football matches, they will have to pay more for their commercial package so we would urge supporters to watch games in the pub with friends wherever possible - this will help pubs where sport is a vital part of their offering to continue to thrive.

“We remain concerned that the prices paid by the companies for football rights will put great pressure on prices for pubs, whose overall operating costs remain a big challenge.”

Notes to editors:

The British Beer & Pub Association is the leading body representing Britain’s brewers and pub companies. The Association is more than a century old and was originally founded as the Brewers’ Society in 1904. Our members account for some 90 per cent of beer brewed in Britain today, and own around 20,000 of the nation’s pubs.
