BBPA signs new partnership with Department of Work and Pensions

05/03/13

A new partnership to ensure effective working between the Department of Work & Pensions and the trade has been launched today, with Brigid Simmonds signing on behalf of the British Beer & Pub Association. Brigid joined Employment Minister Mark Hoban at Eversheds International Solicitors in Wood Street, the City of London this morning.

The aim of the agreement is to improve awareness amongst officials, JobCentre Plus advisers and staff of the excellent job opportunities available in the beer and pub sector, and for DWP to recognise that this is an industry that supports hundreds of thousands of vital jobs throughout the UK, and champion this message across Government.

The new deal commits the Government and industry to work more closely together to maximise opportunities for those working in the sector. This includes the sharing of labour market intelligence, improved communications with a single point of contact within each organization, and working together to promote hospitality industry initiatives.

Minister for Employment Mark Hoban said:

"I want to make sure all young people have a good start to their careers - that's why it's important for the Government to work with employers and trade associations.

"So I'm really pleased that this week I am signing partnership agreements with six major trade associations, including the British Beer & Pub Association.

"This will help us to promote schemes such as our Youth Contract wage incentive to more than 400,000 employers and create more opportunities for young jobseekers across the country."

Brigid Simmonds comments:

“I am very pleased to be signing this agreement, which will enable us to work more closely and effectively with the DWP. It’s a real recognition that the Government recognises the potential for job creation in our sector and is giving this a strong priority. Since 45 per cent of those who work in pubs are under the age of 25, we have a real ability to employ young people. I hope together we can deliver positive results.”
