EMROs – Hartlepool decision is a boost for partnership working, says Brigid Simmonds

The BBPA has welcomed the decision by Hartlepool council not to press ahead with plans for an Early Morning Restriction order (EMRO) for licensed premises in the town.

Tuesday’s consultation event in Hartlepool, which was attended by BBPA Policy Manager Pub Operations Jim Cathcart, saw contributions from a range of industry members who made a positive case for partnership working.

Brigid Simmonds OBE, Chief Executive comments:

“We are pleased that Hartlepool Council has opted for partnership working over the imposition of an untargeted Early Morning Alcohol Restriction Order.

“We all want to see a safe and vibrant night time economy and pubs in Hartlepool are keen to work with the Council to achieve just that. We hope other councils will follow Hartlepool’s example and recognise the negative economic impact of an EMRO on local licensed businesses.”
