Keeping the 2012 beer flowing – London’s key players to meet on 23rd January at Brewers’ Hall in City

With the 2012 Olympics fast approaching, key players are getting together to keep the beer flowing in the capital’s pubs in 2012. The British Beer & Pub Association is to host a conference, sponsored by Transport for London, at Brewers Hall in the City on Monday, 23rd January, to indentify and overcome the key logistical challenges facing brewers, pubs and others as they plan to keep pubgoers supplied with food and drink throughout the capital in 2012.
London’s hospitality sector faces many challenges during the Olympics. The Olympic Route Network stretches through most of central London and also to outlying venues. There will be road closures and turnings changed, with special night-time deliveries and out-of-hours deliveries, with big staffing implications for London’s pubs and other businesses.
BBPA Chief Executive Brigid Simmonds comments:
“The Olympics are a golden opportunity for London’s pubs, which should be right at the heart of the celebrations – hundreds of thousands will want to sample our unique hospitality, so we need to get this right. Sixty-two million pints of beer are supplied to London’s pubs even in a typical month. And that’s before considering the huge range of other supplies needed by London’s hospitality businesses.
“With so many transport issues to overcome, this event will knock heads together, to avoid bottlenecks and pitfalls in June. We need to get London businesses to plan early for their deliveries, and we want to ensure we produce advice that can be made available to all London businesses.”
Further details will be available soon, but key players in the capital are booked to speak at the event, including TfL, London Councils, and brewer/pub representatives. The free-of-charge, but ticketed half day conference already has a limited number of spaces left available, so those wishing to attend should contact as soon as possible.

The British Beer & Pub Association is the UK’s leading organisation representing the brewing and pub sector. Its members account for 96 per cent of the beer brewed in the UK and own nearly two thirds of Britain’s 52,500 pubs.
