Support English Tourism Week 2012, says Brigid Simmonds

BBPA Chief Executive Brigid Simmonds is urging brewers and pubs to get behind English Tourism Week, which runs from 10th to 18th March 2012. Brigid, who is also Chairman of the Tourism Alliance, was supporting the launch of English Tourism Week at the annual national conference of Visitor Attractions in London (see pic) attended by Tourism Minister John Penrose.

The week will be used to celebrate the benefits that tourism brings to everyone, everywhere, every day in England. 2012 is packed with iconic events including the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, The Torch Relay and the finale of the Cultural Olympiad. The week presents an opportunity to showcase how vital beer and pubs are to the tourism economy.

Brigid Simmonds comments:

“English Tourism Week is a great opportunity for brewers and pubs just how vital we are to the tourism sector. Our fantastic range of beers and pubs are a huge draw, with around 13 million tourist visits to pubs every year.

“Tourism is a key element supporting the one million jobs that depend on the beer and pub sector. With the Diamond Jubilee, the Olympics and Paralympics, 2012 couldn’t be a better year to showcase our role. Let’s use English Tourism week to highlight these strengths.”

Notes to editors:

Full details of how all tourism businesses can get involved in English Tourism week are available on the Visit England website via the link above.

The British Beer & Pub Association is the UK’s leading organisation representing the brewing and pub sector. Its members account for 96 per cent of the beer brewed in the UK and own nearly two thirds of Britain’s 52,500 pubs.
