Make the Most of BBPA’s Advice and Expertise
Staff of BBPA Members are encouraged to apply to our Working Groups and Panels and make the most of our policy expertise and advice. Focus areas include pub operations, sustainability, employment and skills, and more
Each panel and working group is managed by a BBPA policy lead who will be your main point of contact for questions related to the panel or working group focus area. Most groups and panels meet quarterly online, with occasional in-person meetings and events.

Working Groups and Panels
Future Beer Group
Function and Remit: Co-ordinating policy body for all issues affecting the brewing industry. Oversees delivery of beer elements of BBPA strategy and key campaigns, such as beer duty.
Meeting Frequency: 4 times per year (dates set for year c. 2 weeks prior to BBPA Council)
Beer Duty Operations Panel
Deals with the intricacies of the payment of excise duty, the compliance burden and regulations affecting the movement of product around the country and across borders and duty fraud issues.
Meeting Frequency: 3 -4 times per year
Excise and Customs Compliance Network
Function and Remit: Communicates any changes to excise or customs arrangements, including alcohol duty returns and customs procedures required for import or export. Ensures member compliance will all HMRC regulation.
Meeting Frequency: Email update group
Keg Watch Management Group
Function and Remit: Deals primarily with beer kegs and casks, developing supply chain best practice to minimise the threat of loss and theft. Manages industry relationship with KegWatch.
Meeting Frequency: 4 per year
Market Intelligence Panel
Function and Remit: Assists with insight and analysis of the UK beer market for the benefit of wider membership and to aid policy decision-making and strategy.

Logistics, Health and Safety Panel
Function and Remit: Oversees BBPA policy and guidance relating to occupational and health & safety issues with a focus on drinks logistics and distribution.
Meeting Frequency: 4 per year
Beer Quality and Safety Panel
Function and Remit: Manages the industry’s food safety programme with CampdenBRI. Advise on quality and safety in relation to raw materials and process including labelling and process issues.

Environment and Sustainability
Environment and Sustainability
Function and Remit: Supporting collaboration on environment and sustainability initiatives, including championing the work of the sector and facilitating policy advocacy to government and wider stakeholders on related issues.
Meeting Frequency: 4 per year
Deposit Return Scheme Working Group
Function and Remit: Shares key information and guidance about the deposit return scheme, including seeking feedback on consultations.
Meeting Frequency: Ad hoc when required – main communications shared via email correspondence
Deposit Return Scheme Sub-group
Function and Remit: Focused forum to discuss both the rest-of-UK and Wales Deposit Return Schemes (DRS) but specifically in relation to the set up and functioning of the Deposit Management Organisation(s).

Pub Operations
Future Pubs Group
Function and Remit: The co-ordinating policy body for strategic issues affecting the pub industry and oversees delivery of pub elements of BBPA strategy.
Meeting Frequency: 4 times per year (dates set for year c. 2 weeks prior to BBPA Council)
Pub Estates Panel
Function and Remit: The co-ordinating policy body for strategic issues affecting the pub industry and oversees delivery of pub elements of BBPA strategy.

Gaming Group
Function and Remit: Deals with issues around gaming machines, music licensing, copyright, and develops policies in these areas. Joint Panel with UKH.
Meeting Frequency: 4 per year
Pub & Brewing Employment & Skills Group
Function and Remit: Deals with employment, wages, recruitment, staff wellbeing, skills and training issues for the pub & brewing sector.
Meeting Frequency: 4 per year
Open to All Forum
Function and Remit: Drive forward the BBPA D&I work programme, support members’ work in this area and share learnings and best practice (across brewing and pubs).
Meeting Frequency: 4 per year

Communications
External Affairs Group
Function and Remit: Advise on BBPA communications in relation to all key industry campaigns, PR and media work.
Meeting Frequency: 3- 4 per year
Pub Partnership PR Working Group
Function and Remit: Raising awareness and educating stakeholders on the benefits of the ‘tied’ partnership pub model.
Meeting Frequency: 6-8 per year

National and Regional Groups
SBPA Executive Committee
Function and Remit: Budget-holder and overall co-ordinating policy and advocacy group for all Scottish specific issues affecting the beer and pub sector. Oversees all interface with Holyrood and devolved regulation to the Scottish Government.
Meeting Frequency: 4 per year
Welsh Beer and Pub Association
Function and Remit: Group co-ordinating lobbying and messaging efforts for BBPA members with a significant business interest in Wales.
Meeting Frequency: Currently rolling engagement as required
Yorkshire and North East Group
Function and Remit: A regional group to represent the pubs and brewers of Yorkshire and the North East and to ensure their unique voice is represented in Westminster.
Meeting Frequency: 4 per year
North West Group
Function and Remit: A regional group to represent the pubs and brewers of the North West and to ensure their unique voice is represented in Westminster.
Meeting Frequency: 4 per year
London and the South Group
Function and Remit: A regional group to represent the pubs and brewers of London and the South and to ensure their unique voice is represented in Westminster.
